Element: Prepare to install adhesive-fixed carpet
Interpret underlay and carpet installation requirements from job and manufacturer instructions and calculate the quantities of materials required
Identify hazards relating to the work site, work practices, materials, tools and equipment, and check risk treatments are in place and operating
Select and check all required tools and equipment are ready to use, and organise to fix any deficiencies according to workplace procedures
Gather underlay, carpet, adhesives, trims and other materials required by job instructions, and check they meet quality requirements and are prepared and ready to install according to manufacturer instructions, product labels and safety data sheets
Confirm the subfloor is clean and suitable for installing the carpet, and fix or report any deficiencies according to workplace procedures
Apply primer to the subfloor according to the manufacturer instructions
Element: Lay carpet using the direct-stick method
Determine the set out and laying direction of the carpet according to job instructions to minimise waste and joins, consider the direction of the pile, and ensure an efficient, quality installation
Establish the skirting point and seam placements for the carpet
Lay out carpet pieces and measure, mark and check them for size, direction of the pile, pattern and match
Fold back the carpet and apply adhesive to the subfloor according to the manufacturer instructions and workplace procedures
Position, stretch and fasten the carpet into the adhesive, and seal and join the carpet pieces, according to the manufacturer instructions
Trim off excess carpet, install finishing strips, and finish installing the carpet to meet quality requirements
Check the carpet is installed correctly according to job instructions and quality requirements, and fix any deficiencies
Element: Lay carpet using the dual-bond method
